The Best New Wedding Day Traditions

November 17, 2015 | Posted in Trends, Weddings

Weddings are steeped in age-old traditions, and while we love an old-fashioned celebration, many New Jersey couples are bucking that trend simply by creating rituals of their own. Here are some of the best “new tricks” we’ve seen at our Hotels Unlimited weddings. We think many of these traditions are here to stay for a while.

Trading in the unity candle. The modern alternative to lighting a unity candle, many couples use sand to symbolize their marriage and unity. This couple from the Crystal Ballroom at the Radisson in Freehold, NJ, had our beautiful fountain as the backdrop to this special moment in the wedding. A similar new tradition is to pour two wines into one glass as a symbol of coming together.

Writing your own vows. Some couples are putting the traditional “love, honor, and trust” into their own words now. Whether you read these vows during the ceremony or in private to each other, personalized vows give a wedding a deeply personal touch. One Ocean County couple showed us a glimpse of what they’d written to each other before their ceremony.

Getting furry family members involved. For couples that own pets together, there’s no denying that these furry friends are family to you. If you can manage, take the dog for a walk together or curl up next to the cat for a few photos. (And for a truly “aww”-worthy pic, check out the pet-sized formalwear this guy is wearing!)

Adding a little magic. Many wedding DJs can enhance your moment on the dance floor with faux snow* or customized lighting for a truly special twist to a traditional first dance. The looks of love on this Crystal Ballroom couple’s faces says it all. (Be sure you also check out all of the special wedding enhancements that all of our wedding venues – including the Crystal Ballroom – have to offer.)

Be sure to check out photos from our Crystal Ballroom weddings for more modern day, offbeat inspirations. Whether it’s full of new ideas or a day of traditional rituals, start planning your perfect day with our team.
